Davood chegini, Deputy for Port and Economic Affairs at the Khuzestan Ports and Maritime Administration, confirmed the berthing of the fifth wheat-carrying vessel at the southern Iranian port.

Currently, three ships carrying over 205,000 tonnes of wheat are being unloaded simultaneously. 
Since the beginning of the current year, a total of 237,000 tonnes of wheat has been unloaded from five vessels at the port.

Nine Vessels Unloading essential Commodities

Chegini stated that nine ships are presently unloading over 540,000 tonnes of basic goods at the port. These include four vessels with maize, three with wheat, and two with barley.

He highlighted that, under the supervision of port operations experts, arrangements have been made to safely berth large grain carriers at Imam Khomeini Port.

21% Growth in unloading of Essential Goods

Chegini reported that more than 3.8 million tonnes of essential commodities have been discharged from 64 ships at the port complex since the start of the year—marking a 21% increase compared to the same period last year.

He added that barley discharge has increased twelvefold, edible oil by 114%, wheat by 100%, maize by 43%, and raw sugar by 17%.

Improvements in loading and cargo clearance procedures have also significantly reduced the dwell time for essential goods, he noted.

National Grain Hub Role

Chegini concluded that Imam Khomeini Port handles over 70% of the country’s essential commodities, solidifying its role as Iran’s principal grain hub. The port has an annual handling capacity of 50 million tonnes of oil and non-oil cargo.
